Ben Hated is a local celebrity throughout Alabama after his song "Escalades & Navigators" blew up last year as a single.  Ben Hated took that song put it with 15 other tracks and just released Mr. Ghetto Fame, his first hyped full length album. A sizeable buzz was swirling in Bama about whether or not Ben Hated's album could match the success of his single, and Ben definitely delivers on Mr. Ghetto Fame.

The 13 song, 3 skit collection starts off with the intro which turns into a very impressive song entitled "Hatin On Me".  Ben Hated rides the bouncy beat with his tongue flipping raps & catchy chanting on the hook.

Up next is the famed "Escalators & Navigators" and if you haven't heard this previously, its the best showcase of Ben Hated's talent on the album.   The beat is slightly mellow and consists mostly or organs and synthesizers, Ben Hated flows all throughout the song with a delivery that matches the feel of the beat.  This is probably one of the best tracks of 2001.

Song 6 is the dark and cryptic " If U Scared" which features Ben Hated rhyming in a slower than usual pace and warning the public "Don't get Scared".  The result is 5 minutes of heart thumping music.

"Gat Sing" features a rolling piano beat and Ben Hated picks up the pace on this song rapping in a gurried frantic tone.

"Tryin to get it" is a track with Ben rapping about his rough childhood and the perils of raising himself on the unforgiving streets.

Pretty much every song on the album is a very solid and all that keeps Mr. Ghetto Fame from being hailed as a masterpiece are the few annoying skits and the sub-par "Ghetto Fame".

"Live & Learn" is a song about a young mother and her maltreatment of her young kids.  The song is listenable, but the
song idea has gotten very old.  There is definitely something for every southern rap fan on this.

Aside from the few previously mentioned bruises, this album is yet another gem and a victory for Alabama rap.  Anyone who is a fan of the style would definitely want to pick up Mr. Ghetto Fame and add it to their CD collection.
