PIMP C "PIMPALTION" ALBUM REVIEW

PIMP C "PIMPALATION"

Reviewer: Krown
Rating: 4 stars

BUY: Regular - 2-Disc - Screwed

The Pimp is free! Pimp C aka Sweet Jones of U.G.K. is out and bringin it hard. The first track off of "Pimpalation" is an intro and the beat is on some layed back pimpin type of shit. Wish he would've flowed on, cause he coulda tore it up.

"I'm Free" is the first song on the album and the only one without any guest appearances. It samples the hook and the beat is inspired by Tom Petty's classic "Free Fallin" The bassline is real throwed.

"Kockin Doors" has Pimp C talkin on the beef between Z-Ro & Slim Thug and Paul Wall & Chamillionaire. Basically tellin them they need to stop the beef and make some money. The hook is is very catchy but the beat aint that tight.

"Rock 4 Rock" features Scarface & Bun B. Godamn thats a couple of nice features to have on your song. The beat has some church organ in it and some strings along with some electric guitar throughout the hook. The song is all about whippin up the soft into hard. Very hard track.

"Pourin Up" may be the jam of the summer down here in the south. Pimp C flow so hard on it, it's rediculous. He raps a little faster than usually, but as always he holds it down. Mike Jones & Bun B are featured on this track.

Slim Thug is featured on "Working The Wheel" You would figure if you get the chance to throw a verse down with Pimp C you would write a good verse. Slim Thug doesnt subscribe to that philosophy, skip the first verse on this track and move on to Pimp C's.

Perhaps the most anticipated and suprising track on the album to H-Town vets is "Havin Thangs 06" ft. Big Mike. If you havent heard Big Mike's album "Somethin Serious" Find it now!!! This is one of the hardest songs ever made.

Trae & Chamillionaire join Pimp C on "Overstand Me" like alot of songs by Bun or Pimp, this beat utilizes the church organ and plenty of high cats. Also like alot of their songs, the hook is sampled from previous lines that they delivered on old songs. Dont get me wrong though, that is tight. I wouldnt want it any other way.

Ladies & Gentlemen! Jazze Pha produced (ruined) "On Your Mind" The beat is a little too happy, but if you like Jazze Pha productions, you'll like this track and "The Honey" which was earlier in the album, also produced by Jazze.

There's a handful of songs on here that I wasnt feeling, but most of them were throwed and if you're a fan of UGK or southern rap in general, you should definately check this CD out.

If you spring for the 2-disc set, the 2nd disc is the chopped and screwed version by Mike Watts of Swishahouse.  It's definately worth it, the chops are on point like always with Watts.
