Well here it is, Pastor Troy's first
album on a major label, will he live up to the standards he has set or will it be an
upset? He's appeared on alot of albums and has released basically a underground album
"I Am DSGB" during the past year.
The first song and the lead single of this album is "This Tha City" the beat on
this album sounds like an electric guitar, but it aint over-bearing. Its done perfectly
and it sounds real tight. The chorus is done real nice also, "I'm come from tha city
where they dont play by rules / I'm come from the city where they ride on fuckin
fools". And of course Troy is talkin about his city and lettin folks know that they
dont play around where he from.
One of my favorite tracks is "My Niggas Is The Grind" the chorus lets you know
where the song is headed: "You tell me your life and I'ma tell you mine / You show me
your ice and I'ma show you mine / And dont say money I put it all on the line / And you
cant fuck with me because my niggas is the grind." This song also features Nature Boy
who comes with a pretty decent verse. Pastor Troy basically rips the song up though, he
seems to get better with time.
"Move To Mars" got a real slow funky type of beat. Yea the title of the song
sounds like somethin Outkast would come with, I didnt really expect it to be that good,
but this song is bumpin. The beat is really crunk and when the chorus kicks in it comes
with a trumpet and its just incredible, the production couldnt be any better. If yall
wonderin he talkin about how earth is just fucked up and he 'Bout to move mars yall'
"Throw Your Flags Up" is the designated get buck & throw a chair song on
here. By the title you can tell what its all about. Represent where you from and thats
just what Troy do on here. This song is filled with a electric guitar also, a deep one, it
almost sounds like a synthesizer of some sort. The chorus is just "Throw your flags
up" being repeated, but thats enough cause it gets the job done.
"Vice Versa" features Peter The Disciple, this is one of my favorite tracks on
the album, a couple of strings of a guitar along with a bell every now and then and a nice
bassline is pretty much what the beat is comprised of. When Troy come with the first
verse, he just starts off flowing regularly with a regular verse, but as his verse
continues he slowly starts getting more and more mad and then starts snapping. During all
this in the background he is saying "yea" and as with his verse the anger in
"yea" increases. Listening to this shit just makes me get mad as hell for some
reason. The concept of this song is heaven and hell and thats what he kinda do with his
verse, he starts off nice with everything being gravy but as time goes on, it all falls
apart and turns evil. To me this is his best performance ever.
I dont really understand the next move, its "No Mo Play In GA" which of course
is the song that made him, the song where he disses Master P. Who can forget the line
"Wassup big mouth, big talk, big game" Well I thought he said he didnt have no
beef with P and here he is releasing the song nationally, so there it is, take it how you
want to.
Last but not least is the track "Oh Father" which is some deep shit. The track
starts off with a little bit of creole. Its nice to hear folk speaking creole every now
and then, but anyway. I love this song, the chorus which is sung "Oh Father, come and
take me, I surrender, I'm ready" really digs deep into you, the beat is basically
voices done on a keyboard along with some chimes in it. The song is Troy talkin a little
bit about his life and struggles.
This album is telling yall that Troy is for real, he aint goin anywhere. If you dont like
him cause of the shit between him and P, SQUASH THAT and give him a try, you wont be
sorry. Down side to this album is that it contains some old tracks, but even if you have
everything by him, you still need this one cause the new songs are some of his best. |
