Mista IBN is
finally back with a new album! Well its not exactly new, you see Playa Fly has been locked
up for some years now, so this album has some tracks on it that he recorded before he got
locked up, some old tracks from past albums and a few tracks with him just flowing over
the phone down at the penal farm.
The first song is "Bill Chill Lives" Bill Chill is Playa Fly's pops who
passed on a few years back, he used to do alot of choruses on Fly's old albums. Anyway,
this song is very similar to "Gettin It On" they might as well called this part
2 to that. The beat is crunk and the hook is sampled by Bill Chill "Do you mind if
we, you and me, be gettin it on..." The beat has some of it sampled from the original
version of that song also. Great Playa Fly song.
Track 5 "Crownin Me" is the 2nd song on this album and it was from Playa
Fly's first CD release "Fly Shit" this is one of the best godamn songs ever made
from a Memphis artist. Yea its an old song, but so what, this song never gets old.
"Universal Heartthrob" is classic Blackout production, his laid back, yet
get buck vibe is so recognizable. Playa Fly drops nothin but gems all throughout this
song.
Playa Fly made "Here Fly Come" for the cats who even dare to think a
derogatory thought about him. First of all, the beat has an underground feel to it and Fly
sounds like he mad all the way through the song.
"Club Friendly" is actually from Blackout's last album, but like
"Crownin Me" its still tight as hell and I aint mad that its on here. The hook
aint the type of shit you're used to hearing from Fly, but he pulls it off "Let a
player see you face down on the dance flo' / ass up / there you go / shake that ass a
little mo"
"We Aint Playin Witcha" was supposedly the single for this album and
played on the radio damn near a year ago, this is just a buck type of song, some hardcore
mean shit. It's classic Fly flow over a bumpin beat.
Songs 10 & 11 are both calls from the pen. On track 11 Fly flows accapella with
some shit that we'd love to hear with a beat.
"Life Goes On" has a happy / feel good beat to it. Some ol' fiesta type
of shit. Thaistik, DAV and some others are featured on this track, but of course Fly blows
everybody out the water. This is a nice song to ride to and swang and bang.
A couple more old songs are up next such as "Nobody Needs Nobody" which
features Gangsta Blac and "Ghetto Eyes" Both of these songs, yes are old, but
they are still very tight.
In between those songs is "Sap Sucka" which is another song by Fly over
the phone.
"Few & Da Proud" features Thaistik, the bassline is super straight
and the beat is pimpish, filled with guitars and strings. The chorus is done by Fly and he
down for his crown on this one. The only problem with this song is that Fly doesnt have
any verses.
"Minnie Mae 4 Life" is up next. This song isnt bad, but it isnt great
either. Fly has decent lyrics on it like always, but the beat wasnt all that bumpin and
the chorus was awful.
The album is closed out with an instrumental version of "Here Fly Come"
which is nice to see every now and then on albums, alot of folks are gonna be sittin
around freestylin to this one!
So the album only actually has 7 new songs, a few old songs, some interludes and
some rappin over the phone. Well if you a Fly fan, you got to get this shit anyway!
There's not really a bad song on it, just some ok tracks. If you're from Texas you may not
like it cause Memphis & Houston is 2 different worlds, but definately check it out or
one of his earlier albums. He's the Don of Memphis. |
