Ever since DJ Screw's death in
November of 2000 Houston area rappers have praised him on various songs on their solo
albums. Some Screwed Up Click members formed the "Screw Heads" and made a dope
album in dedication of the late legend.
The first song is one by Lil' Flip and Shasta called, "Still
Bangin'
Screw." Lil' Flip lets everyone know that he's always gonna be blasting screw by
making a quick track full of Flip's sick flow. Shasta sings the chorus and makes the track
one that can't be played loud enough. Flip strays from his usual freestyle sound and
writes verses that are off the chain with rhymes like "Every time I bust a flow / I'm
a show my ass/you taught me two things/keep it real and fold my cash."
Song 2 is hot but with has a few flaws in
Lil' Keke's "Nothing But
Love." I was hoping Keke would wreck the mic for Screw but the chorus was a
disappointment. Besides that he spits verses from the heart about the roots of the click
with Screw and Fat Pat. He's the last one left and lets you know he'll keep the tops
droppin for the original S.U.C.
Song three features Yungstar and Wood called
"The Young and The Wood." The chorus has them going back in forth and it keeps
your head moving. The first verse is them trading rhymes and Wood manages to keep up with
Yungsta as they feed off of each
other perfectly. Wood's verse is just okay. Yungstar then blows up the song with a
jaw-dropping flow making this an addictive track.
Big Pokey and Chris Ward in "I Miss My
Dog" reminisce about Screw in a song that's hotter than chicken soup. The beat is
crazy with piano playing behind the quick sound. The chorus is perfect which makes up for
a few weak rhymes. C Ward has an impressive verse in one of the albums best songs.
3-2 follows it with an even better track
labeled "Streets of Sin." The beat is off the hook and 3-2's coherent
storytelling lyrics about his love for Screw are some of his best. The song is sick, 'nuff
said.
"What You gonna Do" by D-Diggs and
Ace Deuce talks about always having love for your crew. Diggs starts with a sorry verse
but the song gets better and better from there. Ace Deuce drops
a short but tight verse and Diggs redeems himself and the song ends up being real nice.
20-2-Life do "Trying to Get My Life
Together" in one of the albums worst with a chorus which has words a third grader
would rhyme. It's a hard song not to skip.
The Botany Boys add "What's Up"
which is average. The chorus is alright and the verses are a little annoying. The song is
a bit of a disappointment.
Kotton Mouth is next with "Bustin' On
the Track" in a decent song. He doesn't really say anything noteworthy which makes it
hard to enjoy but the beat is nice to ride to and it turns out alright. Al-D,
Shortymac and A.C.T. do "Jammin' Nothing
but Screw" next and overall its just to fast. It doesn't really make you think of
Screw with real quick rapping and a fast beat, it's not a very good song and since the
album's got 15 songs it can afford to be skipped.
Grace and Trae put together "S.U.C. to
the Finish" on song 11. Grace doesn't really make a lot of sense in his verse and
Trae spits it real well to the beat and ends up making it a good song
with a nice chorus.
Song 12 features a solo Z-Ro with "Under
the Floor" which displays his unbelievable talent. It's a classic Z-Ro song where he
talks shit to the haters in well written verses so fast it'll make your head spin.
Song thirteen is by Hawk called "You
Made it Happen" this is not a good song as Hawk spits simple rhymes in a weird tone.
C- Note is next with "I Miss You."
It's an alright song where he explains how he and the click are gonna hold down while he
rests in peace.
ESG wrecks mic in "Watch What You
Do." This is the best song since the beginning half-dozen tracks. He does exactly
what you would expect by spittin nice rhymes. He talks in praise of him and remembers how
Screw gave him his first play on the old
Screw tapes.
This is a real good album escecially the
first half. It contains some legendary songs by the most noteable Screwed Up Click
members. The beats on every song are suprising, the use of piano's and other instruments
are perfect. This could gave been a great album but a few slip ups make it only very good. |
