South Park Mexican "Reveille Park" Review |

South
Park Mexican’s eighth album has a new theme, one
that explains how it was released so close to his
seventh, Reveille Park is all freestyles. Or
at least that was the advertisement for it coming
out of the Dopehouse camp. Listening to the album, one might become skeptical that
some of the songs are freestyles, and at the end of the album, SPM admits that some of the
songs arent freestyles, but most of them are. That makes more sense, because there
are some songs that are obviously freestyles, and others that obviously are not.
This album features great production from start to finish, the opening track,
The Beach House, was a good way to get things started. It used some voice
samples from High So High for the hook, and features SPM ripping the mic.
Its possible that this one couldve been either a freestyle or pre-recorded,
but the following song, Woodson n Worthin was definitely a freestyle. It
also was definitely among the best tracks on the album.
This album suffers the most from the fact that there are very few songs that are
absolutely great on the album. It features a bunch of pretty good songs, and two or three
wack ones. At the end of the album there are two songs that were pre-recorded, one called
I Need A Sweet, which features Powda and Baby Beesh, and the other called
Cool Enough, which features a singer named J.C. Both of these songs are tight.
I Need A Sweet pits SPM using the old school flow, similar to that seen
on You Know My Name and You Know My Name (remix). Powda then
proceeds to take over the track. She apparently has been signed to Dopehouse Records, and
this is a good thing, because she was already the best rapper on the Salty Water label,
and she should be able to utilize her skill more effectively on the Dopehouse label. Baby
Beesh then came in with a tight verse. Cool Enough was more of a R&B type
track, with SPM filling in with a verse at the end.
In all, this album wasnt bad at all, but doesnt have very much about it
to rave about. It should bump well in the ride, but I would suggest listening to it before
buying. |
