Shop Boyz "Rockstar Mentality" Review |
|
|
The Shop Boyz have exploded on the scene based on their hit song "Party Like A Rockstar" and with the release of their first album "Rockstar Mentality" they're bringing even more rock based rap songs, but 1 song is fine, can we deal with a whole hood rock album?

"Party Like A Rockstar" has alot of electric guitar in it and one of
those dirty south patented repetitive addictive hooks. It's
definately a very catcy song and that's evident by the platinum
status of its ringtone.
"Bowen Homes" is your typical southern rap song, there's no rock
influence on this track. It actually has a little bit of that get
buck Memphis style to it. The beat is bangin with alot of bass and
some strings and piano. The hook is chopped up a little and the Boyz
come up with some tight verses.
"Baby Girl" has alot of accoustic guitar in it along with some
brass, its a real laid back bumpin track. The chorus is a little
lackluster, in fact the hook is plain lame, but overall its a real
solid song.
David Banner handled the production on "They Like Me" aside from him
being annoying as hell on the beginning of the track its a bumpin
track. It has alot of handclaps in it and a synthesizer heavy beat.
The best part of the song is about halfway through the song when the
handclaps disappear and are replaced by snares.
The Beach Boys are featured on "Rollin" ...Not really, but that's
what it sounds like. The Shop Boyz are reachin on this one. I'm not
sure how people are gonna feel about this track, I'm sure someone
will like it but it sounds like 80's Soft Pop / Rock-N-Roll. If they
shot a video for this, expect them to be surfing. I got to give them
credit though, its original as hell and the more I listen to it, it
grows on me.
"Rockstar Mentality" of course has a rock feel to it, this is a real
tight track. There's alot of trumpets in this track with some
handclaps. The chorus has strings synced with it, great production
on this song.
Alot of there songs at first I wasnt feeling, but with my 2nd and
third listen, I really started to like them. If you like any of the
songs you've heard from them so far, you will definately like this
album. If you're tired of the stereotypical southern rap album, pick
this up. If all you want is that hard street shit, this aint for
you.
"Totally Dude" is basically like part 2 to "Party Like A Rockstar",
it's got a real similar to feel to it including the chorus and
verses. The beat is not as metal though, its a little more harder.
It's pretty bumpin dude.
The Shop Boyz definately delivered a very bangin and original album
with "Rockstar Mentality" Their Hood Rock style delivers some
hardcore hits and I've already seen a change to the game within the
past couple of months with rock based rap songs comin out. If you
love "Party Like A Rockstar" you should definately check out this
album. |
