Trina "Diamond Princess" Review |

Anybody can make one album, but
the second coming will often be looked at as your test if you will last in the rap game!
Now itīs Trinas turn to step up to the test! She begins with an intro by Sommore that
leads you to the first song "Hustling" which is her version of the old Eazy-E
song "No More ?" which yīall remember. C-Murder did his version on "Tru 2
Da Game". Anyhow, Signature produced this version and the delivery is all right, the
concept is old anyway.
"Told Yīall" featuring Rick Ross is a typical Trina song with a beat
laid by Cool & Dre. The chorus are simple, sheīs just repeating the phrase "I
told ya ass to get down now!" Rick Ross delivery is really decent I must admit! If
you like SNS you will like this!
Trina's new found friend in this industry, Missy Elliott, helps out on "Rewind
That Back". Now Iīm no huge Missy fan, she manages to deliver decent rap songs but
mostly itīs for the party that plays party-pop-rap. Sheīs not fake - but not raw in the
sense that I like. Anyway, Trinaīs not raw in that way either so they make an okay couple
here. Itīs strictly for the club/dance floor, not the trunk.
"B R Right" with Ludacris is lovely! Well now, every time Luda enters a
song he will help out for the better! The beat with the violins and a great back-up female
vocalist makes this song a Trina favorite of mine. The subject is your typical sex issue
song, and a lil material twist - wow totally new for Trina huh? Well seriously thatīs
what she do best anyway!
"U & Me" is a more serious song, stay together and weīll make it!
That type of song! You know her background, she was together with Trick Daddy's late
brother Hollywood and after he got killed she joined Trick on Ted Lucas new local indie
label Slip N Slide. She actually appeared on the very first SNS album "Tech
Life" in 1996 from Tre+6. She was the female on the intro to the song "Baby
Momma". But it wasnīt until Tricks second CD "www.thug.com" that she
rapped. And she really made a name for herself on the big hit "Nann". Anyway a
great song produced by Cool & Dre.
"Nasty Bitch" features Money Mark of Tre+6, another song on the
sex/material life tip - nothing extra but Mark delivers another great rhyme. Tre+6 is one
of the 3 most underrated southern groups to me - no lie! Next we have the single "No
Panties" featuring Tweet. The whole song was actually written by Missy, as well as
produced by her. She provided a cool first single for Trinas CD I must say. Trina tells
the men they ainīt getting to hit her for free - no never that!
Next to blow out the SNS camp is Deuce Poppi who joins Trina on "I Wanna
Holla" - your typical male vs. female song, nothing extra. "How We Do?"
featuring "Mr. I-Have-To-Spell-My-Name-Out-All-The-Damn-Time" aka Fabolous. A
simple electric guitar laced beat that allows the both of em to shine in their own way!
Now let me ask you, what is it with kids and rapping? Every damn rapper have their own
under age protege these days, so does Trina. Her 10-year-old friend Lil Brianna delivers
what you you can expect from a kid of that age on "Kandi". Iīm kind when I say
this is decent…
On "Ladies 1st" we find Trina rocking with Eve, the last Ruff Ryder if
you want to. She is one of the most overrated female rappers in the game. Sure she
delivers your everyday ghetto lingo but nope this track didnīt do it for me - not at all!
The only song produced by the original SNS track providers Righteous Funk Boogie is
"Party Donīt Stop" featuring Jagged Edge. Too bad Funk Boogie donīt produce
more. They got a great formula and they tend to get overlooked for the job they put in
when it comes to shaping today's Miami sound I must say. Donīt forget them Trina or
whoever picks the producers! "100%" is another song with a more serious feel to
it, I really like it. Great beat and harmonizing back-up singing! Peep it!
The last song features a pretty new face on the rap scene - Bathgate - heīs an
alright rapper but donīt messure up to the quality of other rather new faces like
Ludacris or T.I. Itīs a well done song - but again, decent!
It ends with the outro. Okay Trina looks so great, but did she pass the test I
mentioned when it comes to skills and delivery? Well, yes! Trina delivers something for
the club cause thatīs what she does best, she canīt be La Chat or say a 1995 Gangsta
Boo. Sheīs the southern Foxy Brown - period! And yes we will see more of her in the
future - trust me! However I donīt think she has it in her to deliver a 5 Star album
anytime soon, but who knows |
