How much of the Botany Boys
Success, would you say D.J. Screw had a role in?
C-Note: A majority of it. Its like 25% street and 75% from being on
underground Screw tapes. He gave us a chance to sell 50,000 and 25,000 units.
Whats your greatest memory of Screw?
C-Note: There is so many. Just playing a part in seeing him chop it up,
the freestyling and just watching him make a Screw tape. Smoking and leaning.
D-Red: We did a car show and he made like $12,000 selling tapes.
Then we went to Beamount and before we went on stage he already sold a 1,000 tapes.
A couple of original members of the Botany Boys are on lock down right now. What
are their names, how often do you talk to them?
D-Red: Head and Big Dez are on lock down, I talk to them often.
C-Note: We are still holding it down for
them. We sometimes talk about four times a day. On a Saturday I might just go and spend a
whole day with Big Dez. I can forget about them because they are gone. We're
forever sticking together.
How
did the floods in H-town effect yall?
C-Note: It was crazy, I had just got back from Malibu at the Juvinile
"Set It Off" video shoot. It had turned into the the 3rd coast for real.
It was sad to see. I would like to do a benefit concert for the people that need help.
D-Red: It was fucked up. They're still doing repairs. It fucked the hood
up but not me. I was about to sell some beats but they could not get to me.
Word is, there are some major
labels ready to sign Botany, can you tell me some names?
C-Note: I just got back from New York working on something. I don't
want to talk just yet.
D-Red: We have had a lot of people call. Universal, M.C.A, Epic,
Red Distabution and Def Jam South.
There has been a lot of Botany Boy Cash Money Colabos. How did that come about?
C-Note: I have known them for a while. They sold a lot of albums
independently and we were doing the same thing. We were both on South West
Wholesale. Real reconize real, we just click tight to a lot of biz. We
are in the "Baller Blocken" Movie. We are also on that new U.G.K "Dirty
Money" Album.
D-Red: Back in the days we met at the Bayou
Clasic. The saw us on the charts and we were neck and neck for the number one
spot. They showed us love and we showed them love. When we came back to H-town
we put everybody and got them on Screw tapes.
What advise do you have for anybody coming up independant in the game?
C-Note: Its a long step. Just keep on. It's not fly by
night. Keep your head and your mind right.
D-Red: Watch yourself in the game. Do your paper work. Keep
it on paper, make sure u get what you want and don't let no one take your
publishing. It other words stay on top of your biz.
Whats in the future for Big Shot Records?
C-Note: A screwed and chopped version of 3rd coast vol. 1-2
dedicated to DJ Screw. Its not by Screw but its pretty close. Also Will-Lean's album and
our new Down-South compilation.
