Reintroduce
yourself to the world.
For the record,
I’m “Mr. Nobody Needs Nobody” himself. Mr. “Crownin’ Me”. Mr. “Just Awaken
Shaken, once again it’s on”. Mr. Minnie Mae Mafia. Mista Man. King Of Funky
Town.
What age were you
when you recorded your first song? And what song was that?
Oh Boy, I guess
bout 14. The title of the song was “Don’t Never Test This Pimpin”.
What inspired you
to become a rapper?
Actually, I don’t
consider myself as a rapper. I consider myself as an artist. And what inspired
me to become an artist was that the rapper from my city, this local DJ from my
city was releasing a lil’ underground mix tape with rappers on them or what have
you. And I just felt like you know, tell my side of the story. I want to
represent for my hood. And I felt like I could do it better than half of them
niggaz doing it anyway, because I was just always inclined to write poetry or
whatever the case might be.
How would you
describe yourself and your music?
Reality, yeah you
know, not fabricated. No where near falsified, just everything genuine and real.
Like, I said, reality.
In reference to
the song “Crowning Me”, it seems you put others before yourself, do you consider
that a blessing or a curse?
Well you know, a
lil’ bit of good in everything, a lil bit of bad in everything. You know how
that go. So with that being said, it’s just a flip of the coin. What may be an
umbrella to block the rain today may not be used tomorrow or may be used
tomorrow to block the sunshine. So with that being said, it’s a two-sided coin.
So I just couldn’t put it on a scale and weigh one more than the other. It all
just depends on the situation at the day.
What influence
did growing up in both a Christian & Islamic household have on you?
If I didn’t get
anything else out of it, I got the knowledge that there is a God. And He do
exist, regardless of what your route is, you give respect to Him. Whether you
catch a boat to get to Him, catch a plane, or ride a train. The destination is
inevitable and it does exist. And that’s the biggest influence that I got was
that. The fact of the matter or the knowledge of the situation that God do exist
and you have to pay homage and respect. And you’ll receive blessings in return.
Regardless of which avenue or which road I take to get to my destination again.
And basically if it didn’t do anything else, it inspired me to know that there
is a God.
What can society
as a whole do to close the gap between the two faiths?
It isn’t one in
particular thing they can do. It’s just a course of action or chain of events
that has to take place. For every action there’s a reaction so I can’t say one
action in particular. I can say look both ways before you cross the street and
maybe it’ll make your day better, but at the end of the day, it is what it is.
So you know, it isn’t just one action that can take place that can make a
situation better. Because every action gone cause a equal or opposite reaction
so no matter how much right you try to do, some muthafucka somewhere still
trying to do you wrong. No matter how much correction you try to do, it’s still
somebody you know waiting to get a lil’ more bucker. It’s always a tree out
there taller than your tree. It’s always a lil’ herb out there fire than your
herb. Its always a broad head out there fire than your broad’s head. So
something’s going to happen regardless, no matter how hard you try.
But no, it isn’t
just one action or something negative to bridge the gap. Just as hard as me and
you try to bring it closer together, you best believe it, its gone be somebody
somewhere trying to pull it that much farther apart.
What do you
believe the American Constitution’s foundation consist of?
Man, you know, I
don’t know too much about that, only what I learned in grade school. I don’t
keep up with it you know. I learned enough to get up out of the grade. I’m just
like that, I’m a Taliban. I’m eating out the same bowl with Osama Bin Laden and
the rest of the Al Qaeda. I’m living by them laws now and the constitution,
damn the American.
In reference to
the song “In God We Trust”, you said “Put aside your fame & wealth and you might
find something you can cherish more than life itself”. What do you
cherish more than life itself?
Everything is in
it, first and foremost the existence of God being in my life. That’s something I
cherish more than life itself. My son, Third, the list go on and on. You know
what Joe said, ”the mercedes benz, it wasn’t enough, ya cognac and vodka-it
wasn’t enough. Ya gold visa”.. ya know what I’m sayin? It aint gone neva be
enough mane. At the end of the day, one part of life that has to take place,
that’s the ending. You have to do, so with that being said, how can you put it
on a pedal.
So why wouldn’t
you find something you can value for. Anything? Maybe your talent, your ability
to reach people and change their lives, and have them relate to issues you’ve
been through all your life. Have them feeling like they’ve been knowing you all
of their life, because they’ve been listening to your music for 10 years. And it
really makes their day to interview you and stuff like that. So, I put aside my
fame and wealth and I’ll cherish more than life itself, the fact that I have an
affect on somebody else life like that.
Why do you think
your music has remained up to date this long?
Reality, its real, reality is down
to earth mane. Its easy going mane. It’s like that chunky soup with McNabb’s
mama and them be on that commercial. You know already mane it’s high energy good
for you. (It’s) Full of vitamins, protein, minerals and all that good stuff. It
makes you strong. (It’s) Advocate and adversaries
out here on the battlefield. It’s reality. It talks about subject matter that’s
not fads or fashions. It talks about test of time situations.
What does the
game owe you?
*imitating Tony
Montana* The world Chico and everything in it. I want what’s coming to me. And
what’s that Tony? The world Chico, and everything in it.
Is there anything
in life that you regret?
You know it’s an
experience. If its something they retrospect in their past that they wish they
could change, they as the term is used, “regret”. But at the end of the day, I
live by the logic that you can’t take it back so why waste my time pouting and
being pissed off about it. I need to just adjust the situation and use it to my
advantage. Yeah, I learned from my mistakes, that’s the way I was raised, but at
the same time, I’ve also learned in this period of my life not to have too many
regrets because you’re not doing anything but wasting energy and time. Bitching
to yourself about something you can’t change anyway.
Why cry over
spilled milk, I like drinking Moet too much, and I like drinking purple stuff
and they don’t stop making cows and niggaz don’t stop milking cows so you know
life goes on.
What would you
say to the youth growing up in crime infested poverty who think there isn’t any
other option, but to live the life style they are accustomed to in their
environment?
You have to pick
up your own shovel mane. You have to dig deep and find what’s inspiring you. If
you subject yourself to a certain statue of limitations, in that aspect, all you
gone settle for is less. If you want more, you’ll do more. If you want more, you
gone go get more. You gone try to strive big, you aint gone settle for that. So
it aint about what I can tell a person specifically. It all boils down to your
desires, what floats your boat, what makes “G” happy.
What’s good for
one doesn’t have to be good for two. Just because it pleases me doesn’t mean it
has to please you. So with that being said, if a person want to settle for that,
being subjective to them. Man look, just as easy as you sat out on that corner
and sell rocks mane, you can walk the streets and pick up cans. You can try to
recycle something, you can wash cars, you know.
Its just this
pride thing and you worry about what people think when they ride through the
fast food restaurant lined to see you in the fast food window. You can’t let “so
and so” see you there. It aint about that! But you don’t want them to see you in
jail or hell either, but you’re willing to take that chance so it’s really about
what you find in yourself. Your desire, your integrity, your gut instinct to
want to strive. I had a choice to make. This is what I chose. I asked God to
give me this over that. And this is what he gave me.
It got to the
point where the streets was cold to me. The game got old to me. The paper got
old to me. They sold they soul to me. I paced myself. Takin’ step by step. They
callin’, my mafia brothas if I need some help. And mob all over all the broken
hearts I left. And shine upon all you bitches all by myself. Where, right beside
my dog, standing one for all. And everybody who love me, ya know I mob for yall.
Shockin’ shows and souls who chose to oppose M-Three and still I scream Nobody…uuh
ohh.
Do you feel being
incarcerated hurt or helped you as an individual and an artist?
Man, shit, how in
the fuck living in the shadow of a got-damn box can help a grown ass man? I’m a
man and a half so how in the fuck can that help me? You learn from it, but it
didn’t help me. I was a better muthafucka before I went to the box. It didn’t
take going to the box for me to learn that I was doing some shit I aint have no
business doing. I knew that before I went there. Damn right, it hurt me. It
slowed down my career. It took me out of the life of my son. Out the life of my
daughter, my family, the mob, all the lives that revolved around me.
Picture me being
the sun, and the whole solar system is my mob. And all of a sudden, you just
take the sun away from the solar system. You got lil innocent planets out there
man, lil innocent satellites, lil innocent moons, and stars that just revolve
around me, being their nucleus. And you take that away from them. That’s the
shit that hurted me the most, how the people who was innocent by-standers had to
got-dammit do the time too, because they was taken away from me. I was taken
away from them. Nah, it aint help me at all. Only thing out there, I learned to
like reading. I never ever enjoyed reading. But I love it now, I just don’t
never find time to do what I’m looking for. Time I can pull up and buy me a book
and read or something. Cuz I’ll read like four-five hundred pages in a nights
time. In one sit, if I’m right, got me a couple of sticks to burn.
Will there ever
be any collaborations with Gangsta Blac, Black Out & Terror?
I don’t know.
That’s the answer to that question.
Down-South.com
did an interview with Pastor Troy about 5 years ago and he told us you two did an
album together, any truth to that?
No, there’s not
any truth to that. We suppose to had did an album but actually we never recorded
it.
Any upcoming
albums and projects to look forward to?
*chants* “In
stores soon Mafia All Day, New Fly and I hate ya had to wait”. Other than that,
just taking it slow so I can do it some mo’. Show some love, keeping it real,
mobbin far as I can see. Just trying to enjoy the life.
Tell us bout the
horses ya got in ya stable?
I got Thaistik
The Bearilla, Mista Tito, Mista King Tito my by brotha and Miami Maine up in
this thang. That’s the mob. Can’t forget Joe Soprano. He just a mob himself. He
isn’t an artist but he’s the mob. But first and foremost, we got Thaistik, the “Bearilla”,
me personally myself Playa Fly, Miami Mane, Mr. King Tito, Joe Soprano, got my
lil brotha Stone Cold out there, he lurkin somewhere. My brotha London Fog. I got access to niggaz like
Nigga 9, Killa Murphy, and you know Mafia All Day for real.
How has the
internet benefited you?
Myspace.
www.myspace.com/playaflymuzik . I promise, it’s a great connection,
beautiful asset, and its one for one. I believe myspace did a lot for me. It did
a great job for me. It’s a powerful marketing and testing tool. I also believe
it’s a big ole’ bootleg scheme to it at the same time. Aint doing nothing but
finding away to give ya music away so. Anyway, I just hope people go buy the
record. Don’t support the bootleg, buy the album. Support the movement.
How many more
years you think you got left as an artist?
I don’t know how
many I got left. I got a lifetime, I just don’t want it. I love being an artist,
I just don’t appreciate the music business and the people that’s in it. Because
they have contaminated it so much. It aint fun no more, everybody’s trying to
rap. Everybody trying to watch the money so it aint music no more and my passion
lies with making music itself. It aint in actual selling the records, although,
I do enjoy the benefits. Collecting the checks, doing the shows, collecting
those balances and depositing them. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy making the
money, but at the end of the day, my passion lies in inventing. Making music,
being able to tell my story. Reaching, preaching, teaching to you. As the
public, and getting the love shown back in return for the love that I show.
That’s what I do it for. I can see myself doing this a little more, but I
planned this to be all over with and done by now anyway. Even though I know life
is a lot about plan. Fans like “nah mane, so why ya gonna stop rapping dog”? I’m
not saying that, I’m just sayin man look, I’m not going to be up here 35 yrs old
like Master P and expect me to be rappin all this old shit. I just don’t want to
be doing it. I didn’t try to get my label to executive cheerlead produce other
artists. I really got to secure myself as an artist so I can succeed and make
sure my brothers get their foot in the door, get their toes wet and make a
little money. Then I’ll sit my ass down somewhere for life. Be a father to my
son. Be a father to my daughter.
So, tell us about the new single..
The single that
we are rolling with right now, this single is titled “Da Truth”. Its produced by
a producer from Memphis that currently resides in Atlanta, by the name of Yung
Juve. Affiliated with SoSo Def. We recorded it at Patchworks Recording in
Atlanta Georgia. Me, myself, and I..Playa Fly. The Universal Heart throb. Solo
artist on the single titled Da Truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the
truth. And its an eye poppin, jaw dropping, heart stopping, head bangin, ear
rangin’ out the fram achin, ya know.
I ‘preciate ya
support, contact ya local radio stations and request it and lets try to do it
real big. I should be shooting a video for it sometime soon. I’ll advertise it,
let everybody come out and participate and be a part of it. Just going for what
I know.
The album is
complete, I just don’t have a release date yet so I won’t lead everyone on, but
we aint waiting on me to record anymore songs. We just trying to get our game
plan together before we run out there on the court.
Any last words?
In stores soon
Mafia All Day. New fly and I hate ya had to wait. Don’t support the bootleg. Buy
the album. Support the movement. It’s the truth, the whole truth, and nothing
but the truth.
www.myspace.com/playaflymuzik On behalf of Minnie Mae Mafia, Minnie Mae Muzik, I would like so say Mafia All Day, say no more, Sap Sucka!!!
