In the vernacular of Southern hip hop the word trill is a contraction of the words true and real. It is one of the most powerful words of affirmation that young Southerners can use when describing something authentic. So when Don P, Dirty Mouth and LA decided to come up with a name for their trio they knew that it would have to be something to describe the ultra raw reality that they bring to their music they decided to call themselves Trillville.

If you have heard BME’s dynamic Trillville’s singles “Get On My Level” or “Get Some Crunk in Your System” from their debut LP Welcome to Trillville chances are you’ve been hiding under a rock because they along with fellow BME artists Lil Scrappy and Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys practically dominated hip hop this year. But with their more subdued, radio friendly “Some Cut” the trio is set to break new ground and reach a whole new demographic, the ladies. Down-South.com recently got in the cut (pardon the pun) with Trillville’s Dirty Mouth (nee Jamal Glaze) and LA (nee: Lawrence Edwards) and here’s what they had to say.

Down-South.com What part of Atlanta are you from and what was it like growing up there?

Dirty Mouth: You I’m from Zone 3, but I stayed everywhere –Prior Street, University, Carver Homes. It was a rough life but we made the best of it.

LA: East side of the A, Decatur.

Down-South.com What kind of music did you grow up listening to?

Dirty Mouth: All types, ya know all types, from old school to the new school.

Down-South.com Who would you say are your influences in terms of rap?

Dirty Mouth: Well of course Lil Jon, but at the same time I listened to Biggie and Tupac.

LA: I listened to a lotta the pioneers…a lotta Bun B, UGK, Eightball and MJG and Lil Jon, of course.

Down-South.com So if you all are 23 now that means when Lil Jon was hitting back in the day with the song “Who ya Wit” was hitting you had to be in junior high school?

Dirty Mouth: Yeah, round ‘bout 90 something.

Down-South.com Yeah that was during the Freaknic era, you weren’t out there freaknicing were you?

Dirty Mouth: yeah I was out there on the block, a young jet.

Down-South.com How did you get started rapping?

Dirty Mouth: Well I been rapping since I was ye high. When Lil Jon first came out I like the way he was doing that crunk music. I was a fan. But, as I started to get older he inspired me to do crunk music.

LA: Well we were all just out in the A, doing our thang, so when it happened it happened like a transition. And when I say it happened like a transition I mean we was listening to it, but we didn’t get our first single on the radio until like 02, 03. So it kinda gradually happened.

Down-South.com How did you all get together?

Dirty Mouth: We grew up together. Back in the day when me and LA was promoting parties, we just hooked up from there. We starting performing at our own parties. We would have 3,500 kids tearing the club up listening to Trillville.

Down-South.com I heard that Lil Jon came into a club and heard you guys performing and signed you right afterwards, is that true?

Dirty Mouth: Exactly. As I was saying we were performing at our own party and Lil Jon walked in and I guess he liked what he saw and he pick us up right then and there.

Down-South.com I heard that you guys were selling your CD Get on My Level out the trunk before BME signed you all….

Dirty Mouth: Yeah we were independent before then. We were just grinding in the streets working behind the scene as well, Lil Jon saw that and I guess that impressed him enough to sign us.

Down-South.com What was the name of your previous label?

Dirty Mouth: Trillville Records. I mean we never did have no money or nothing like that. We were just slanging our records out the trunk and we just called our company Trillville Entertainment. We actually went to a couple of different labels like Def Jam South, but that never happened so we just hooked up with BME.

Down-South.com What happened to the label now?

Dirty Mouth: We just changed it to Trill Time Entertainment.

Down-South.com Are you guys gonna have acts coming out on Trill Time?

Dirty Mouth: Exactly. Our first act coming out is Montay C. His album is called How I’m Living. Then we got Legacy coming soon.

Down-South.com Okay to a lot of older people criticize crunk music for being a little too aggressive, maybe even violent what would you say to them?

Dirty Mouth: Well you know our music isn’t for everybody, especially for somebody who isn’t our age. If it offends somebody it’s just music. It’s not meant to please everybody, but it certainly ain’t meant to hurt anybody either.

Down-South.com What is crunk music?

Dirty Mouth: Crunk music is like letting off energy, releasing stress. It's just going to the club and getting wild, throwing some bo’s and having a good time.

Down-South.com Let me ask you about the current single “Some Cut” how did you all come up with the concept for that song?

Dirty Mouth: We were in the studio working on the album and we heard the bed springs squeaking and I knew what to put on it. I wrote it for the ladies and all of the fellas who like to get some cut.

Down-South.com Okay, for the benefit of our readers who may not be from the south, who may not be from the ATL, explain to them what some cut is?

Dirty Mouth: Some cut is when you’re out at the club with that lady friend or your girl and y’all ready to go home and get in the bed and do y’all thang, that’s what cutting is. You cuttin’ the bedroom up.

Down-South.com What sets you apart from other Atlanta groups like Crime Mob and Dem franchise Boys?

Dirty Mouth: All I can say is we keep it original and we all have our own sound.

Down-South.com Any final words?

LA: Yeah be sure to look out for our new album Trillville: Reloaded. It gone be that fire!
