Mike Jones Discusses "Voice Of The Streets" Print E-mail

Image"I speak for the people," Jones explains about his choice of album title. "Everybody whose voice is important in their community and the game, they consider themselves a voice. My voice is very relevant in this game. I let them know my voice is still being heard and listened to by people in the streets." - Mike Jones. Read on for more info on his upcoming album "Voice Of The Streets" which will hit stores April 15th.

DJ Smurf a.k.a. Mr. Collipark, producer for multiple Ying Yang Twins singles including “Wait (The Whisper Song)” collaborates with Jones on a few of his hot new songs, including the hypnotic first single, “Drop and Gimme 50” and the insanely catchy and hilarious MySpace-leaked joint, “Crunchin’ Munch.” On this classic weed cut, the South’s most lovable rhymesayer pays homage to the sweet snack he loves to eat while puffing.

Jones continues to flaunt his newfound success on “Anything But Broke,” produced by DJ Toomp (T.I., Kanye West). He serenades the ladies with the seductively sweet “Next To You,” crafted by J.R. Rotem (Snoop, Britney Spears), and beatsmiths Usual Suspects lace Jones with another ode to honeys, “Cuddy Buddy” featuring fellow Southern rap star Lil’ Wayne, Twista and a soulful hook from R&B artist T-Pain.

“I love the female songs,” shares Jones. “Mike Jones is one of many. I’m not nailed into one stereotype. Mike Jones can make all music. He’s not afraid to open up and let the world know who he is. I’m going to let you know the ups and downs of Mike Jones. Voice of the Streets is how I wanted my first album, Who Is Mike Jones? to be. Now you can see my writing skills that I wrote for Lil’ Mo and LeToya Luckett. You will really be able to see another side to Mike Jones.

Despite the obvious odds stacked against him and the obstacles in his path, hip-hop’s hardest working MC overcame them all to become one of the most recognizable voices in rap music. “Nobody believed in me,” he tells. “They told me I couldn’t do it. I had to turn a negative into a positive. That’s what I did. I had to show the world that if you work and play and grind like me, you can turn any negative situation into a positive situation.”

Aided by a confident, charismatic flow, Mike Jones exploded onto the national scene in 2005 with his block-bending break out single, “Still Tippin’” and follow-up smash, “Back Then.” Introducing the world to Texas culture, Mike Jones went on to sell 1.5 million units of his Warner Bros/Asylum Records debut, Who Is Mike Jones?

“I’m going to rep Houston forever,” he states. “We’ve always had the torch. The media just came and got on to what we were doing in 05'. We've been doing this for a long time, though”

Music isn’t the only scene Mike Jones has managed to infiltrate. He also runs two charity organizations, Ice Age for Kids and American Dream Foundation, and is the proud proprietor of one of Houston’s most popular nightclubs. “Club Ice Age gets celebrities in there every Sunday,” he says with pride. “Eva Pigford, Vivica Fox, Vida Guerra, Morris Chestnutt, Tracy McGrady and Meagan Good. You can see why I call myself the Mayor.”

Why does it sound like Mike Jones is Jay-Z of the south from this article? Hardest working MC around? Most lovable rhymesayer? Writing skills? Most recognizable voice in rap? confident and charismatic flow? WOW, are they sure they were talking about Mike Jones and not Eminem there?

Nope, never did. All his singles failed. I feel for the guy, he is very humble, but his rapping is just abysmal.

came out as an ep with 6 songs (Turnin Headz, My 64, Like What I Got, Still Tippin', Back Then, and Crunch-n-Munch) and his feature length movie about his life on it.
My 64 was tight wit the Eazy E Boyz n the Hood hook. And Crunch-n-Munch is catchy as hell. Movie aint bad either.

My applause goes to the guy with the post above well said, I agree 100 percent ;-)... These nigga's just mad cause they favorite artist's ain't selling no more, like Pimp C said, so they take it out on one's who are... but yeah this major music biz, is something funny but crucial at da sametime, to do number's and move unit's your music has to be something a mass crowd would like from 11 year's old to adult's, cause dat's why Soulja Boy out selling some of yall favorite artist's now (Plies, Rick Ross, etc,), when he drop "Crank Dat" he got a mass crowd, you can't hate him for having your lil sister's, and girlfreind's dance to his shit, da lil nigga know what he doing ;-)... Same with Mike Jones I was trying to figure out how da hell he out sold Bun B when it's clear to see who's the better MC, but it ain't about dat no more no more when it comes to mainstream, if you wanna do number's, *Supply & Demand* Nigga's remember dat, you nigga's better open your eye's and take heed to this music biz...

HOLD UPPPPPPP! People mad at Mike Jones because he selling more albums than their favourite artists? As far as i know, the only artist that couldn't even release his album is Mike Jones. And no this is not hating, you got to be stupid to think that saying Mike Jones has no rap talent is hating. Its the truth, no matter if he grinded with Magno or Timbaland. Your heads are messed up. Chamillionaire has rap talent, Bun B has rap talent, Pimp C had rap talent (RIP), Paul Wall has SOMEWHAT rap talent since his best stuff was written Chamillionaire. But Mike Jones? No.

And its funny that you bring up Soulja Boi. That boy is the most talentless artist in the game right now and its people like you that don't understand what real music is that buy his CD because it is catchy. As much as Mike Jones is nice as a person, as a rapper he is just terrible. The only reason he sold 1.5 million is because he released his album in the year when album sales were at record time highs. In that time if you released an album it was almost guaranteed to go gold. Now that the times are tough, don't expect Mike Jones to even break 150,000
three 6
written by mtown, March 26, 2008
say mike jones couldnt release his album? look at three 6... its been a year and a half almost since they were suppose to release last 2 walk (which mike is gonna be feat on a track) but im sure as hell gonna cop that when it comes out june 24th... if it does and your prediction bout mr jones is fucked up. im gonna git that shit and so are a million other folk. sure he definitely aint up there lyrically wit sweet jones, triple 6, and em other greats, but his pockets sure is and thas all that matters in the rap game. he got his own style and atleast he raps unlike soulja bitch yellin nonsense. keep ya game up mike jones. haters mad cause they know your name and nobody know who the fuck they are

All i can say is good luck to you and Mike Jones. Seems like you have a lot of foul's hope in you.
You can't hate another man's success...
written by Slimm Cutta, March 26, 2008
What I am saying is, it don't matter what you drop on a cd or album, you can be the most sickest, lyrical or whatever the fuck ever in the universe, if people don't move they feet and buy your shit, you ain't gonna move unit's or do number's, and the label lose money, which mean's they getting rid of your ass ;-), now the best thing to do is, is to sit back drop your shit at da right time, or your topic of rapping better be what's going on at da moment cause if not, you going in flop city nigga ;-)... Now what Mike Jones is doing along with other's is sitting back and waiting to drop for the right time, I'm willing to bet he out sale some of yall favorite artist again, it's *supply and demand* I keep telling yall nigga's, dat phrase make's and brake's artist's and if you think it's a game, ask them artist who used to be mainstream now underground barely pushing 100,000 unit's... I'm telling yall nigga'z... Soulja Boy dam near platinum and nigga's losing they fucking mind, dat's a sign of hating, how you gonna hate on another nigga success, he ain't got nobody name in his mouth or dissing them or nutting, but nigga's still hating, well hate on nigga's, dat's what you do best...

Slimm Cutta signing off...
