Well-known rapper T.I. was arrested at his southwest Atlanta home Saturday.
There are (unconfirmed) reports now that T.I. was arrested for trying to buy a fully automatic machine gun from an undercover agent. Before the arrest, a federal search warrant was executed at T.I.'s College Park residence about 15 miles southwest of Atlanta. Special agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives were seen carting boxes of evidence from T.I.'s home. It's not clear whether in those boxes was the weapon T.I. reportedly purchased. Investigators did not release the charges, but did say the investigation unfolded quickly.
T.I., remains in custody.
The agencies at the scene of the federal search warrant include: The ATF, U.S. Marshalls: Fugitive Task Force, Fulton County SWAT, Fulton County PD, Dekalb County PD, and the ATF/Atlanta PD Violent Crime Impact Team.
The U.S. Attorney's office will neither confirm nor deny anything about the investigation.
Harris' arrest comes as the BET Hip-Hop Awards were taped on Saturday at the Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center in Atlanta. The Atlanta-based rapper, who just turned 27-years-old on September 25, led the pack with nine nominations, including CD of the Year, Lyricist of the Year and MVP of the Year.
Harris was scheduled to perform at the awards and host an after-party at an Atlanta nightclub Saturday night, but he was noticeably absent from red carpet festivities before the show began.
