The new No
Limit Records is here and to show the new talent combined with the old here we have the
perfect Christmas gift; a new 504 Boyz album! I guess the 504 like to keep their album
titles to one word, the last one was called "Goodfellas" as you remember. Now
that was a really strong album, and now that Mystikal left the group can they make yet
another classic, cause trust me, stakes is high!
First off they got the single that everybody already done heard; "Tight
Whips" features Lil Romeo, who actually delivers a good rhyme for a kid, maybe he can
make something happen with his new album? However it's newcomer T-Bo that delivers the
strongest rhyme here! This is a cool single, perfect for BET, MTV etc!
"Who Run This" features a rowdy Master P lovely! The line "Since
I put my son out you think I went soft?/Fuck these n*ggas I touch these n*ggas!"
is actually what we all want ain't it? I know I gave "Game Face" three stars,
maybe I was too generous, it's the rowdy P that we want, and by the looks of this album
and the great Cam'ron collab "Bout It Bout It 3" it seams like we got him back!
Overall a great NL song produced by Myke Diesel.
"Holla" is average compared to the standard of the album,
the production is somewhat tired and sounds somewhat recycled. However a great verse by
newcomer Curren$y makes the track worth checking out!
Da Beat Boyz is behind the new NL sound and with the song "Haters Gon
Hate" they produced a great beat! True New Orleans sound, true southern spit, all in
all a cool track! A great thing bout it, is that it only has Krazy, Choppa and Curren$y
rapping on it, why? Well now that many mc's left it's great to hear the future spitters
and represents of NL, this is the sound we'll get on solo albums from em all!
"I Got You Girl" is more laid back,
it's kind of soft, not in a bad way at all. I mean we all have a special girl in our life
and this song is something you can play with her - no doubt! Without a doubt one of the
best tracks on the album!
"Look At Me Now" features the same sample as 2 Pac's "Picture Me
Rollin" so the beat is very similar to it. Somebody maybe Krazy talks
in between verses and sounds EXACTLY like Pac. Don't know if they did it to confuse us or
what. Like the track anyway!
"Yeah Yeah" is not the worst song I
heard but I feel like it could have been left in the lab, it really don't do nothing for
the album - simple! But Carlos Stephens did the beat, I usually love his beats. Since I
heard his work on "Hoodlum Fo Life" I have almost never heard a bad beat, this
is the first beat I heard from him I didn't like at all! It's the beat that make the song
bad, it's hard to spit to, it's slow tempo with no good sounds, just not a good
production.
"Get Back" is a club track "Hey hoe, better watch them elbows!"
MP yell while hollering "BITCH GET OF ME!" in the back, a thing he has said
quite a few times by now, but I still feel it!
"My Life Is Sweet" deals with the
subject of how hard the 504 boyz can shine, they got cars that ain't even out yet, and
diamonds and money hanging out the ass I guess, I really like the beat though
And
also the verses from new comers Afficial a group of three rhymers that could make BIG
noise if P give em a push! They have a freestyle session on the bonus DVD that makes the
album worth buying just for that, Afficial ain't on the shining tip like the rest I would
say. They real gutter, real hardcore all up in yo face type of rappers. The best group
since Ghetto Commission to join NL from what I heard so far!
"Wanna Live Like Us" got MP, Krazy and Afficial together. Beat Boyz did a
cool beat and the delivery all rappers came to the table with is real to the bone.
Especially Afficial, hope they gets to make their own album soon!
"Tell Me" is probably the most
outstanding song on the album. Krazy plays the biggest part of this real life,
guitar-laced beat, song. MP also comes tight on here. It's more social awareness on this
track and less bling-bling. That's why I like it so much! And I'm positive yall will to!
As well as "WAR". No Limit is still an army and this is a real pure uncut raw
type of song, like they say in the chorus!
"I Gotta Have That There" samples
"For The Love Of You" by isley Brothers, so the come out of the beat is a 80's
sound, real laid-back again. They say they just gotta have that girl over there, if their
men don't know, they shouldnt bring her in here.
"Every Where I Go" is a solo track from Curren$y whos album I'm
really looking forward to. He seems to be pretty young maybe like 17-19 so he has the
future ahead of him. Hope he makes the right moves and get the right push he sure is
"the hot spitter" like he claim he is! Sure he ain't no new Scarface as far as
lyrical content or class of delivery but he stay true to the 504 sound and I hold his
skills above the average rapper!
"Everybody Chillin" is almost something Too Short or B-Legit would spit
to, real funky, west coast influenced to the fullest. It has an Al Green sample, so that's
what the beat got it's groove from. "We Gon Ride" is a lot harder! Almost
mobbing sound to this. A great piano beat and sinister rhymes makes this a song to
remember!
"Grab Da Wall" ends the album, it's
almost 8 minutes long (actually is around 3:50 and then you get "Rock It" from
Game face as a bonus), featuring Webbie, who was the star of MP's single
"Ohhwee" a cool way to end the album!
Anyway, is it worth picking up? Yes it is! I admit once again that giving both Game
Face and Lil Romeo 3 stars was maybe a lil bit too much! Not that the albums sucked big
time but we know what P and the NL camp can give us so when we don't get that we get a lil
bit disappointed. It's like going to a better restaurant, you don't want no burger or
pizza on ya plate. You want to get what you know the chef can cook, and this time around
the chefs from the 504 sure cooked us a great gumbo! No Limit is back, and this time to
make real big noise! |
