Gangsta Blac & Skinny Pimp "The Mayor & The Pimp" Review |

I've been saying to myself for a long time that
Gangsta Blac & Skinny Pimp should make a duo album
and its finally happened. (OK, I really was
saying Fly & GB, but this will do) North & South
Memphis have combined. Gangsta Blac & Skinny Pimp
have dropped over 15 albums between the 2 of them
and they are legends in Memphis. This album should
be an instant classic.
The first track is "Think It Over" the bassline is one that
has been used before by Gangsta Blac on his album
"Can It Be" for a song called "Critical" before
that it was used by 2 Black way back in the day.
Project Pat even stole to use it on his song "You
Know The Biss" ....Gangsta Blac flows first with
his impeccable flow, following him is Skinny
Pimp's verse. This song has an old pimpish feel to
it and so does the chorus.
"Doggin" is up next it features Lil Jon & Mista Ian. This
song is a get crunk type of track, that's pretty
much a given with Lil Jon on it. Skinny Pimp has
the first verse and he uses some old lyrics for
his first and mixes it up with some twistin. GB
flows next, but he doesnt come as tight as he
usually does. The chorus is basically "We doggin
all these bitches" Being repeated and the beat is
pretty tight. Mista Ian flows next but doesn't
come that tight.
"Ass In" has a real tight spage age pimpin type of beat.
Gangsta Blac flows first and he comes right on
this one. The chorus goes "Gotta get my ass in" it
would've been much better if folks wasnt talkin
all over the chorus. Skinny also comes real on
this with lyrics like "Makin this money aint easy
at all, got me watchin my back when I ball"
"Turn Tha Light On" has an underground feel sound to the
beat, its some hardcore/eerie plus laid back type
of shit. This track features Dirty Fresh, Rich Bum
& Rap Hustlaz and it would've been much better
without them.
Nakia Shine is featured on "Livin Like A Hustla" the beat
sounds like something that would be released in 95
by DJ Magic Mike. This song is similar to those
heard on Skinny Pimp's ""Pimpin & Hustlin" album,
as it has a pimpish feel to it, especially the
chorus.
"Blood Stains" sounds like a song made especially for GB, he
flows real tight on this song. However, Skinny
Pimp may have stolen the show with his verse, he's
been twistin more than he used too and he drops a
tight verse. The chorus is straight memphis shit
"Blood stains and membrane all accross your dash
mane" The beat has some synthesizers in it
with a tight bassline.
The way that "That's What Niggas Do" was produced it makes it
sounds like everyone is off beat. This song
could've been tight as it features Criminal Manne,
but it falls short.
"Oh Shit" samples its beat from the score to the Godfather,
you might've already heard this song on Kingpin
Skinny Pimps album "2000 Rap Dope Game" If you havent heard this
song before you'll probably love it. Gangsta Blac
may have laid down one of his best verses ever on
this junt. Not to mention GB, Skinny also comes
with some of his best shit.
Right when "What's Up" came on I knew I was in for some tight
shit. The beat is mainly comprised of guitars and
a dope bassline. But when the verses came in my
opinion changed because Skinny was damn near
singin / talkin instead comin with his flow.
Gangsta Blac also started off a little suspect
with his verse, but he came through with his
patented delivery. The chorus is a little lame,
but its still bumpable.
Haystak is on "Boys Down Here" but this is another old song,
it doesnt have Skinny Pimp on it, but it does have
Gangsta Blac. Both come with some tight verses and
the chorus is on some crunk shit.
With only 13 tracks, and 1 being an outro and another being
an intro, plus and old song it comes out to 10
songs. For diehard Blac & Skinny fans, that really
wont matter. This is a tight album, it could've
been better and especially longer, but if you love
Memphis rap and you dont got it yet, check it out! |
