Its been a long time comin, but finally the Nappy Roots are comin with their debut release on Atlantic Records, the big question is will this album be as tight as their first single "Aw Naw" Nappy Roots are Skinny Deville, Big V, R. Prophet, B. Stille, Scales & Ron Clutch.

"Set It Out" is an uptempo crunk type of a track, with a beat mainly consisting of organs. the chorus is real fast and sounds like some GA shit "Roll something, drank somethin, cut somethin, what" It reminds me of some Slimm Calhoun or something like that.

"Country Boys" got some mandolin and voices in the background, this is a real laid back, 1930's type of gangsta soundin track, the beat is complex and changes a little bit throughout the song. This is a mellow, yet hardcore, you gotta bob your head to this shit. Its like a mix between godfather and "O' brother where art thou" if you can imagine that. One of the best songs on the album with great lyrics by Nappy Roots.

"Awnaw" of course yall done heard this one before, its one of the best singles to come out the south in a while, it showcases their versatality with beats and vocals. The organs and the chorus that you can sing along with, really makes this song a classic and will be remembered as the song that put Kentucky on the map for rap.

"Slums" is a tale of the lives of Nappy Roots and what they represent and where they came from. "Slums" has a harder & dirtier feel than most of the other tracks on the album. This line gives you an idea of just how much of a slum they used to "National Geographic aint fuckin with this wildlife"

Guitars are all over "Po Folks" this right here is some country / soul / rap soundin shit. This is has a real laid back, remeniscent feel to it. "All my life, been po, but it really dont matter no more, and they wonder why we act this way, nappy roots gon be ok"

"Blowin Trees" has a real original beat to it, its got a lil bit of harmonica in it, some organs and guitars. When this came on, I had to crank it up, I think its one of the nicest tracks on the album.

Some more original shit is to follow, the next track "Sholiz" got some ole different soundin synthesizers in it and a lil piano also. But this track is too far out there, its too strange. You can listen to it all the way through, cause their vocals carry the track, but next time around it'll get skipped.

"My Ride" also has a GA feel to it, this is real uptempo, it aint no club type of track, but it is a crunk track, makes you want to throw some boes.

"Dime, Quarter..." has a little bit of a spanish feel to it, they all flow real nice over this track. This song is all about the material thangs in life and how money makes the world go round.

There are only a few tracks on this album that aint all that bumpin, the rest of the album is real tight and very original, but not too original to where the shit sounds weird. I've been saying "laid back" alot throughout the review of this album, and thats really what it is, they aint talkin about slangin dope and shootin niggas in every song. This is a southern hip hop group, with an album everybody should like somethin about.
