2008 may not have been a particularly prosperous or peaceful year, but it for damn sure was full of noteworthy style. From the emergence of America’s new style icon, to the style trend we most want to leave in ‘08 - we give you the year’s biggest style figures, trends, and moments.

5. Geek steez - Thank you Kanye. Thank you Jigga. The thick-framed glasses, teeny-fros, dad sweaters and flashback prom suits of this look scream, “I’m so cool, I can get away with this.”

4. Robo-Beyonce - What to do with your look when you’ve been glam, retro, hood and sex kitten? If you’re Beyonce, you go hi-tech-robo-fierce. The key accessory for this look was a Lorraine Schwartz-designed titanium glove.

Sasha Fierce Stranded on Gilligan’s Island?

It seems Hollywood isn’t done resurrecting classic television shows. Producers of the 70s hit comedy Gilligan’s Island are working on a big screen adaptation and want none other than Ms. Sasha Fierce, Beyonce Knowles, to play red-headed vixen Ginger.

With two singles scorching the charts and an album that has yet to bow out of the Top 10, Beyonce seems best fit to don the skimpy leopard dress; the “Single Ladies” video will vouch for that. Michael Cera of Super Bad and Juno fame is also being tapped to play the dim-witted Gilligan.

2008’s Political Losers

Number four is still in office (just not the one she hoped to be in) but most of these politicians will be relegated to book deals and syndicated radio in 2009.

5. George Bush – Why isn’t he number one, you ask? Well, he’s had seven years as the worst politician in the country. Let someone else have a chance.

4. Sarah Palin – What feminist wouldn’t want to see a charming mother of five in the White House? Well, given Palin’s views on reproductive rights – just about none. The folksy “maverick” may have been the best thing for Saturday Night Live’s ratings, but she would’ve been the worst thing for the country.
